תהיתם אי פעם מדוע אתם מקבלים כל כך הרבה ספאם? אולי זה בגלל שחבריכם שוכחים להשתמש באופציית ה-BCC כשהם שולחים מייל קולקטיבי או מכתב שרשרת.
בשליחת מייל עומדות בפניכם 3 אופציות לכיתוב הנמענים:
1. אופציית ה-TO: הנמען או הנמענים המרכזיים של הודעת המייל.
2. אופציית ה-CC: העתק גלוי לנמענים נוספים (ר"ת של Carbon Copy או Courtesy Copy).
3. אופציית ה-BCC: העתק מוסתר לנמענים שונים. לא חושף את זהותם ואת כתובות המייל שלהם בפני הנמענים האחרים של ההודעה (ר"ת של Blind Carbon Copy או Blind Courtesy Copy).
כששולחים הודעת מייל מרובת נמענים, נהוג להסתיר את כתובות המייל שלהם ע"י שימוש באופציית ה-BCC. מדובר בצעד מניעתי כנגד ספאמרים, משום שכך אנו נמנעים מליצור רשימות ארוכות של כתובות מייל בתוך ההודעה. וירוסים ותוכנות ספאם יודעים לזהות הודעות מסוג זה ולקצור את כתובות המייל מתוך ההודעה.
השימוש ב-BCC הינו אקט של נימוס אלמנטרי ואם כולנו נשכיל להשתמש בו, נוכל להקטין משמעותית את כמויות הספאם הנשלחות אלינו.

אם יש לכם איזשהו ספק אם בידיכם הודעה תמימה או הודעת ספאם ואתם בכל זאת רוצים להעביר אותה לחברים - אנא, רישמו את כתובות הנמענים בשורת ה-BCC, ואם חבריכם לא עשו כן, אנא מחקו את כתובות המייל של האחרים לפני העברת ההודעה.

To specify the recipients, an e-mail message can contain addresses in any of the 3 following fields:
1. To: field recipients are the audience of the message.
2. CC: field recipients are others whom the author wishes to publicly inform of the message (CC stands for Carbon Copy or Courtesy Copy).
3. BCC: field recipients are those being discreetly or surreptitiously informed of the communication and cannot see any of the other addressees (BCC stands for Blind Carbon Copy or Blind Courtesy Copy).
When sending an e-mail to multiple recipients, you can hide their e-mail addresses from each other. This is a sensible anti-spam precaution because it avoids making a long list of e-mail addresses available to all the recipients (which is what happens if you put everyone's address in the To: or CC: fields). For this reason, it often makes sense to use the BCC field for mailing lists.
Viruses and spam-bots are now designed to go through mail files and address books looking for potential addresses. Sending a single message individually addressed to a large list of people increases the chances that they all will be spammed or sent a virus should any one of them get infected.
And one last thing: please don't forget to delete all addresses from previous forwarded e-mails, which cut the chain of involuntary publicity for those who didn't ask for that publicity.
